Rain Garden

Challenges

This property was the proverbial low spot on the block. It held lots of water and received everyone else’s. Water does not run uphill, even in a pipe, and the clients needed a solution for times of saturation.

Opportunities & Solutions

We encourage clients to work with nature and turn perceived problems into real opportunities. We carved dry streambeds and percolation zones  into the natural floor of the land, which can handle large volumes of water at peak times. We planted water-loving perennials and grasses between decorative boulders and gravel. The raised vegetable gardens and a fire feature constructed of similar stone tie the yard and terrace together.
